It features the rear axle code, transmission code and engine block with VIN — all matching to this vehicle and making it a real matching-numbers Chevelle. It is one of only 23 1972 Chevelles built with the LS5 engine package, M40-code automatic transmission, Z15 SS package with ZL2 cowl induction hood, according to the 1972 Chevrolet A-Body Production Totals by Daniel Carr. The exterior is finished in Orange Flame with black SS stripes, the interior features black bucket seats and a center console. This specific LS5 SS 454 convertible was a customer order for the original owner and was built in Kansas City, MO, on June 7, 1972, near the end of the production run, then delivered to Ed Kelly Chevrolet in Clairton, PA. The first owner took possession on June 29, 1972, and rust-proofed and undercoated the vehicle. He documented in the Owner's Manual service notes, including mileage until April 1987, writing 42,036 miles. On May 14, 1998, the car was sold to the second owner in Pennsylvania, at which time the title mileage was marked Exempt. The car was repainted once in 2014; however, it was not totally restored. The consignor is the third owner. All necessary maintenance has been performed, and the undercarriage has been detailed, including the installation of a new original-style exhaust system and a new convertible top. Includes the original spare tire with jack, all original booklets, six factory Build Sheets and Protect-O-Plate with the original owner's name and address.
