Long Description:
This 1968 Oldsmobile 442 is one of 1,518 4-speed convertibles produced in 1968. This two-owner, highly optioned, Michigan-built 442 underwent a professional frame-off rotisserie restoration. Powered by a 400ci V8 engine with a 4-speed manual transmission, it retains its original matching-numbers powertrain with correct casting numbers and date codes. Finished in red and white with attributes such as brightwork, chrome, glass and new Legendary interior, including the boot cover. The restoration focused on returning this vehicle back to factory stock appearance and included inspection marks, decals, stickers and tags. The engine and drivetrain restoration details includes the engine bay detailed and restored back to factory original condition, including an engine rebuild with dynamometer testing; carburetor rebuild with testing and tuning to camshaft; period-correct date-coded spark plug wires; and complete Gardner exhaust system. The chassis restoration details include components painted with epoxy primer and returned to original GM Black; steering box rebuilt with 12:1 close-ratio conversion option; new steering and suspension components, including period-correct spiral shocks; as well as new headlight and taillight harnesses. The exterior restoration details begin with all sheet metal either original to this car, a 442 or new old stock and is finished to original GM finishes with PPG products used for the body and chassis. All new weatherstripping by Softseal. Additional restoration details include new hydraulics and convertible top, and all window glass replaced with correct LOF date codes. Additional features include power convertible, power windows, power antenna, under-the-hood light, rally fender stripe, and driver's remote outside mirror. Interior features include tilt steering wheel, power driver's seat, console with bucket seats, dashboard courtesy light package, Rallye gauges including a Tic-Toc-Tach, speed minder speedometer, AM/FM radio, sport wood-grain steering wheel and a vacuum trunk release with a trunk light. It is a two-time Concours winner of the 2018 Misselwood North Shore Concours D' Elegance and the 2019 Newport Concours D' Elegance "Best-of-Class." This Concours-winning convertible rides on SSII wheels wearing period correct F70x14 Kelsey white lettered tires, including the spare. Included are three books. Two captured and chronicled the restoration process, the two Concours events as well as photo authentication of the vehicle's component casting numbers and date codes. The third book is "2019: The Concours Year," which captures all the winners of Concours events throughout the world for 2019. It also comes with the original title, Oldsmobile Protect-O-Plate, owner's manual and convertible top operations manual for supporting vehicle documentation.
